Designated player Kady Smith bats during May 6 game against El Camino

The Renegades softball team dropped their first playoff game on May 6.

BC took the lead in the bottom of the first when centerfielder Kylie Havens bunted and reached first on a throwing error; the ball then rolled up the fence, and Havens demonstrated her elite speed as she galloped all the way home, as El Camino failed to get the ball back infield before she scored.

A sacrifice fly by El Camino in the top of the third tied it back up, but not before some talks amongst the umpires about whether or not the runner on third left early. After the deliberation, they stayed with the call on the field that the runner was safe at home.

After taking a 4-1 lead in the top of the 5th thanks to a Rylee Price 3-run home run, El Camino took their first lead scoring 4 runs in the 6th to take a 5-4 lead.

BC was able to tie the game in the bottom of the 6th, but El Camino was able to knock one in in the top of the 7th, and though the Renegades made a valiant effort to tie it and win in the bottom of the 7th, the effort came up short as BC dropped game 1 of this 3-game series, 6-5.

The Renegades will fight for their playoff lives when game 2 begins at 2 p.m. on May 7.
