Some many years ago I was the opinion page editor of the renegade rip circa 1978-1980) and was the first of your writers to be awarded the initial Kern County Press Club journalism award (for a feature article on child abuse) even though I was the “reaction” (editorial) page editor. Your archives go no where near where the best ever of your school’s writers were (at the time of my writing, the chief editor of the rip was debora hunsinger), we were at the forefront of college writings on the bakke decisison (one of only 2 schools in the state favoring a ruling against reverse discrimination), the sales of alcohol across the street from the football stadium (banned on college game nights, but not high school nights) and many other issues which are long in the past. If any of our editors are interested in looking where things were, e-mail me copies of our stuff fromn those days and i’ll fill you in on what it was like to be on the razor’s edge
