Dear Editor,
Good afternoon, my name is Jenna Pratt, I am 15 years old, and a sophomore attending Liberty High School in Bakersfield, CA. I write to you today with great concern, yet even greater hope in my heart. Liberty is a wonderful school, and the teachers employed are extraordinary.
Singing in choir under the direction of Mr. McQuerry (better know as Mr. Mac) has been a wonderful experience. However choir is not the same now as it was last year. Our accompanist of several years played in her final concert last year, as she chose to return to teaching private piano lessons at her home. Her generous and sunny spirit touched all involved in choir. Everyone loved Mrs. Natalya Baker.
Well just recently Mr. Mac announced to the choir that Mrs. Baker’s daughter, Llefia, who lives in Chicago and has no insurance, is facing an unexpected and serious surgery this coming Thursday. The retina of Llefia’s eye has detached from the cornea and broken itself into pieces. The financial strain is unbelievable as Mr. Baker was employed at Vons before retiring. I am sure you remember the grocery strikes a year or two ago, well one benefit that was cut as a result of that was the retirement benefits of those who worked at Vons. On top of that, Mr. Baker now has Alzheimer’s. The cost of the procedure alone is estimated at $11,000.00.
If there are any make-a-wish type organizations available within your business,or if you could help share the financial burden at all, she sure could use the help. As I have said, Mrs. Baker has given so generously of herself over the past years, it would be great to help in her time of need.
Thank you,
Jenna Pratt
