‘A Christmas in Kern’ slated for Monday
The BC Chamber Orchestra and Wind Ensemble will present “A Christmas in Kern” on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Fox Theater, 2001 H St. Children under 12 and military personnel in uniform are free, student admission is $3 and general admission is $5. The event will include musical guests.
Gay, lesbian students seek club adviser
A gay and lesbian club is trying to form and it needs an adviser. The first step toward functioning as a club is getting an adviser, according to Andrew Bickers, director of student activities. Those interested in joining the club or who have questions should contact Bickers at 395-4357.
Cheerleading tryouts coming in February
Tryouts for cheerleading for 2003-04 will be held Feb. 17-22. The orientation will be Feb. 17 at 3:30 p.m. in the Gym Huddle. Applications are available in the Student Activities office. For more information, call 395-4355.
Rip staff wins 24 journalism awards
The Renegade Rip staff recently won 24 awards at the Southern California Journalism Association of Community Colleges regional competition at California State University, Fullerton. Along with winning the highest award of general excellence, the students brought home numerous mail-in and on-the-spot awards. Every student in the small BC contingent won an on-the-spot contest award in deadline driven competitions.
The on-the-spot awards included: first place, critical review, Amber Garcia; first place, copy editing, Jarrod M. Graham; third place, sports photo, John Vodopija; third place, editorial cartoon, Gerardo Delgadillo; third place, news story, Amber Garcia; fourth place, news story, Demethrasis Blackmon; and honorable mention, sports photo, Anissa Candelaria.
Other on-the-spot awards earned by Rip staffers included: honorable mention, bring-in feature photo, John Vodopija; and honorable mention, bring-in feature photo, Sean Lewis.
