Juan Gutierrez, BC public information specialist: 747-1645
Jarrod Graham: “Is this the same outage that struck the campus yesterday afternoon?”
Juan Gutierrez: “Yeah, it’s the same one. It’s a continuation.”
Graham: “So power was never restored from that time yesterday?”
Gutierrez: “Until now, no. We have a team of electrical folk trying to isolate the problem. Some buildings do have power but they’re doing a walkthrough to see if they can isolate it. Some are still dark, some are not.”
Graham: “Do we know what caused the outage yet?”
Gutierrez: “Not at this time. That’s what we’re trying to determine. It has something to do with our backbone power system. They’re going through the checks right now.”
Graham: “Who made the call to cancel classes?”
Gutierrez: “It was the president, Sandra Serrano, and the deans. There was a meeting at the Van Dyke Bird Library last night to determine what course of action we should take, contingency plans. At that time, we didn’t know if power was going to come back on. We’re still trying to see if we can get partial power. The decision was made last night, basically.”
