Bakersfield College has officially appointed Dr. Stacy Pfluger as its permanent president after serving as interim president for the past year, Kern Community College District Chancellor Dr. Steven Bloomberg announced Monday, May 19.
Later Monday evening, Bloomberg sent the campus community an email stating that he will leave KCCD to become the chancellor of the Maricopa Community College District in Arizona.
As of Tuesday morning (May 20), a replacement for Bloomberg has not been named. However, President Pfluger messaged the campus community to assure that she is going to stay in her new position as president.

In his announcement about Pfluger, Bloomberg said her leadership during the transitional period reflected a strong commitment to students, employees and the college’s mission. Pfluger brings experience in instruction, student services, workforce and academic programming, and institutional leadership.
During her time as interim president, she focused on student support, campus engagement and strengthening community partnerships as the college continued to grow, including the expansion of the Arvin campus.
Pfluger earned her Doctor of Education from Texas Tech University and her Master of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Notre Dame. Bloomberg described Pfluger as a collaborative and approachable leader who values transparency and communication across the college community. Her appointment marks a new chapter for Bakersfield College as the campus moves from transitional leadership into a permanent presidency focused on growth, student success and stronger community connections.
