The Bakersfield College volleyball team hosted Taft College and defeated them in all 3 sets making the match on March 18 a score of 0-3. Each set had the same score of 19-25. The Renegades have won every match this season so far.

The Renegades tallied a total of 38 kills against the Cougars. In the first set, The Renegades had to regain the lead, but once they did it, they were unstoppable. They brought that same energy from the first set into the second. Although the beginning of the second ended up starting slow, they finished with a bang. In the third and final set, The Renegades brought the heat from the moment it started and were able to defeat the cougars and end the game without letting them win not one set. Alyson Dees was the game leader, with 13 kills and 7 digs.

“Overall, I think our team did well tonight! We had a few hiccups here and there and let Taft get a run of points a little bit, but we managed to stay composed and focused enough to win in 3 sets. I thought our defense was phenomenal tonight, we had girls all over the floor, making plays and not letting anything drop. Our middle hitters were being fed a set of almost every opportunity given to them because they were doing an amazing job at executing against Taft. Our team is very excited about being able to compete this season, which brings a lot of energy into the gym each match, and that helps a lot,” said number 22 Emily Clark.

Clark is very optimistic about the future of her team.

“It’s very exciting to have such a good start to our season! Due to COVID-19, we’re having a shorter season, so it’s a little different than normal, but I think the whole team is excited to see the progress that we all are going to make as we finish this year off. We only have a few more weeks left until beach practices/season starts, and I think that a lot of the development that has happened from this season will help and transfer into beach and next season, for the returners,” she said.

The Renegades have more games lined up for the rest of the season that is being live-streamed and uploaded to the Bakersfield College Athletics website www.gogades.com.
