Bakersfield College swept College of the Canyons Wednesday night in a dominant performance. The performance was highlighted by Aly Dees, who led her team in kills in the match with 11.

The first two sets were handily won by BC, but the Gades came off to a slow start in the third set, going down 7-1 early. BC played catchup for most of the third set until they eventually took a 21-20 lead late. The Renegades never gave the lead back, winning the set 25-23 to secure the sweep.

When asked about his team’s performance, head coach Carl Ferreira said he was “really really happy” with how his team played against “one of the best teams in [the] conference”. When it came to the slow start in the third set, Ferreira brought up the fact that the team had not played a game in 13 days due to games being canceled because of COVID-19. “You lose some rhythm. Volleyball is a big rhythm sport, you get in this rhythm of, you know, all the things you’re doing, so honestly, I was kind of expecting a little bit of a rollercoaster because that’s what happens when you’re out of sync a little bit. With that being said I was extremely happy with our composure to hang in there [when] there was some inconsistencies.”

For their next game, Renegade volleyball will be heading south to West Los Angeles College on Oct. 1.
