Opening day is on it’s Way

Spring training has come and gone, and all that is left is the last few days for teams to make their final adjustments for the long 162 game season. Although spring training isn’t as competitive as the real deal, unfortunately, injuries can still occur, and that is some of the biggest stories going into the season for some teams, starting with the New York Mets. The Mets made some of the biggest moves of the offseason especially getting Max Scherzer to add to the rotation with Jacob DeGrom, the best pitcher in all of baseball. With that being said, DeGrom just went down with an unfortunate injury, not even being able to start the season with his team, who are hoping to make a run deep into the postseason.

Although having “Mad Max” Scherzer doesn’t put the Mets in a terrible situation, losing the possibility of the one, two combination will hurt for the duration of Degrom’s absence. Another story going into the season is the entirety of the AL East. Looking like the best division in baseball with four teams who look like they can compete only one, possibly two, can make it out of what is looking to be the hardest division in baseball. The Blue Jays look like a team to beat with the addition of Matt Chapman who plays stellar defense at third base, and then Vlad Guerrero Jr along with Bo Bichette both taking major steps forward last season proving that this young group is expecting to win plenty of games. The Yankees always have a team that looks to make a run, but their biggest question is can their big stars stay healthy? Both Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton have been riddled with injuries throughout their careers, but when healthy are some of baseball’s best power hitters. Also in the same division are teams like the Red Sox and Tampa Bay, who have both made World Series appearances within the last four years, and still look like they can take their division.

Then in the NL, the biggest question is in the laps of the mighty Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers were already the best team in baseball on paper, but with the addition of Freddie Freeman, what kind of power does this team now wield? The Spring however did look rough for the Dodgers whose biggest issue seems to be on the defensive side of the ball, lacking pitching depth which in past years has been their Achilles heel. Only time will tell, but until then play ball!
