Riize continues to rise

Riize+continues+to+rise

K-pop label SM Entertainment’s newest boy group RIIZE has released their newest track “Impossible.” This is a pre-release for their upcoming mini album titled “RIIZING.” The mini album’s release date is currently still unannounced, but the group will release three B-Side singles on April 29. “9 Days,” “Honestly, “and “One Kiss.”

Returning to SM’s roots, “Impossible” is a house-centric track that features a fast-paced tempo, smooth synths, and a nice guitar sample through the chorus.  The second Sohee starts off the track yelling “Gimmie that beat!” You can’t help but move. Instantly, you are hit with a chant like chorus. The group sings of lyrics that speak of how nothing is impossible when following your dreams. It is very reminiscent of a club anthem and is a very strong contender for song of the summer. SM is known for having extremely vocally talented idols, and RIIZE is no exception.

Though “Impossible” sonically is quite different from the group’s previous release “Love 119” which was more like a modernized 90s ballad, the vocal delivery over this dance track is still impeccable. The chorus is so catchy. After just a few listens it is bound to be stuck in your head.

The accompanying music video is equally captivating. The locations of the shots are unique. Beautiful shots of the members on beaches and intricate buildings are contrasted by dance breaks inside abandoned warehouses and subway tunnels.

The styling of the boys is impeccable too. They manage to fit the concept of the song and look cohesive as a group, while remaining unique to each member. The choreography was intense as well, RIIZE previously has had tough choreo, but this time around they really outdid themselves, especially with the footwork.

The group’s comeback didn’t come without backlash though, as former member Seunghan was not featured on the track. This would mark the third RIIZE song without him, including the recently re-recorded version of their pre-debut song “Siren.” He is currently on an “indefinite hiatus” due to controversy regarding his life as a trainee.

In all, this was a new sound for RIIZE, and with their first mini album releasing soon, there is no doubt that RIIZE will continue to rise.
