Bakersfield College sophomore Raven Segobia is getting an associate degree in geology next year before transferring to California State University, Bakersfield.
“I’m hoping to get my master’s in geochemistry, and from there, I’m hoping to go into petroleum geochemistry and maybe do rock evaluation or become a consultant for a company.”

When asked why she chose geochemistry, Segobia answered, “I really like chemistry. I loved taking it in high school, and I really like where geology has taken me. The classes I’ve taken here and the things I’ve read about this field are just amazingly interesting, so combining them together just made sense.”
Segobia wants to combine her knowledge of chemistry and geology to help the oil industry make good decisions about drilling and refining.

“I’m a first generation college student, and my parents just pushed me in the general direction of college. My mom is a big inspiration to me because she’s very hard working. She spends all day at work and still comes home and cleans and spends time with everyone and reads.”

When asked about BC, Segobia said, “I have definitely enjoyed my time here, and I like all the resources that are available to help with academics, like SI’s, tutoring, instructor’s office hours, etc.”
