The battle between Sonya Christian and the Kern Community College District reignited after the KCCD board voted against the approval of Christian’s contract.

The newly negotiated contract between Christian and the KCCD was signed and recommended for approval at the Sept. 10 board meeting. In the contract the board had negotiated a pay raise for Christian in what seemed to be a fair and equitable contract.

In the Sept. 10 board meeting the trustees voted to approve the contracts of Cerro Coso and Porterville college president’s. However, the board voted against the approval of Christians contract in a 4-3 vote.

Following the vote, Porterville College trustee John Corkins made a motion to table Christian’s contract for even further negotiation, noting that the board had until Feb. 3, 2016 to do so.

There is still a possibility that Christian will continue her role as Bakersfield College president if a further negotiation leads to the approval of her contract.
