On March 24, a Lavender Initiatives meeting took place at Campus Center (CC) room 233 from 12 – 1 p.m. The meeting discussed the upcoming events such as a queer prom and pre-commencement ceremony for students who are graduating.
Before the meeting started, everyone got lunch that was provided by the club. The new Chief of Safety was there at the meeting to answer any questions students had, along with introducing himself.
The main purpose for meeting was to give students accessed to formal outfits and to get more information about the prom and the per-commencement.
Carlos Lucatero the leader of Lavender Initiatives, had talked about the queer prom that will take place on May 1 from 7 –10 p.m. at the Renegade Event Center. In order to attend to the event they needed RSVP by April 24.
On the same day as the prom, the pre-commencement will be taking place from 4:00 –5:00 p.m. at the Renegade Event Center as well. This event will be celebrating the queer students.
During the meeting Lucatero discussed the break in between the two events, along with any students that does not want to go home, they are able to use a room to get ready for the prom.
The Lavender Initiative are providing formal outfits for students who don’t have any formal dresses or suits for the upcoming the prom, along with jewelry.
After the event was over students were allowed to grab some LGBTQ+ freebies such as stickers, flags, bracelets, and keychain as well.
