Bakersfield College debuts “eCampus”

Bakersfield College debuted its new, solely online bookstore called “eCampus” which has changed the way students and staff get books. The change from between physical interaction to online has created controversy amongst BC goers.

Kern Community College District and Barnes & Noble, BC has chosen not to renew current contract. Creating the new eCampus, bookstore, that is more cost efficient. Bakersfield College’s Bookstore has opened back up after its construction over summer of 2023 with a couple of changes.

It’s now more apparel forward store than the bookstore most students knew.  that contained supplies and a more in-person book purchasing process.

This change has caused the populace to reveal some mixed personal opinions with the sudden changes to their shopping experience.

Sha’ron Bradley, a student at Bakersfield College said, “It’s ridiculous. I know people who are still waiting for textbooks, and they ordered them four weeks ago.”

Students stated that it is taking too long to receive books. Some even had to drop classes due to books not coming in time, according to Bradley.

Others said that it’s next to impossible to gain books as the site asks for an address, making it harder for homeless students to receive the resources they need.  Some students even claim that they don’t even bother ordering from the site and go to other measures to get their books including Amazon and the Surviving BC Facebook page.

Others, however, claim that the bookstore has improved due to its new contract. Argumentation and debate Professor Michael Korcok stated, “In my opinion, it is actually a lot easier to assign textbooks [through the new eCampus]. Of course they’ll have to iron out some of the bugs, but I find it easier.”
