Bakersfield College parking area has been under construction for some time. With the exciting highly anticipated college dorm building that has been estimated to be completed within the next 2 years, this raises concern due to the lack of parking in convenient areas throughout the campus.
The lack of convenient parking has affected not only the students but also the staff as well as more and more parking spaces have been cut away due to the ongoing construction throughout the campus.
Assistant Director of College Safety, Carlos Rios stated “We do have a convenient parking shortage.”
With the partial closure of P7 due to college dorms being in construction, there is going to be no further expansion for student and staff parking. Although there are many options for students and staff to park throughout the college some areas might not be the most convenient due to the distance.
Bakersfield College has 16 parking areas across the entire campus, even free parking provided to the students if they choose not to pay for the student parking. It is advised to get to campus early to ensure that students can find parking along with making it to class on time.
“There is plenty of parking if you go to P8 or P16” added Rios
The campus safety also offers a shuttle escort for students 24/7 which is accessible through their phone number. This solution offers students who parked far from campus a ride if they feel it is most convenient. You are advised to call (661) 395-4554 any time you may need at your connivence, just be mindful and patient with staff.
It is also advised that you can call the shuttle escort around campus during evening classes, especially if you must walk around campus due to evening classes. Do not hesitate to call if you’d like an escort to the parking lot or to your vehicle, especially in areas that are not so well lit due to construction.
In the foreseen future it seems as though parking may continue to be an issue for everyone on campus. Although College Safety will ensure that they will try their best to make parking as manageable and simple as possible.
Even though this continues to be a widespread issue around campus, there are many solutions that may students and staff can take to cooperate with the limited parking that BC campus has to offer, such as arriving earlier than usual or taking advantage of BC escort services.
Despite the parking frustrations, students are given resources to reach out too to ensure their safety and peace of mind.
