Strangers – Chapter 3, the final segment of the film “chapter” trilogy was released on Feb. 6 this year. The now three-part movie series, follows the story of a killer trio that terrorizes visitors of the Venus Hotel. This movie is full of its typical thrills, drills, plot twists and most certainly violent scenes. While the storyline is easy to follow, key events and context were given for viewers to grasp the backstories of the characters throughout the film.
Director Renny Harlin, best known for directing action movies, truly put those skills to use in this 2026 film. There were various scenes of intensity and fear featuring unapologetically gory scenes. The film picks up after the ending of the second chapter with the lead character– Maya, played by Madelaine Petsch, still running from the masked murderers in the small and hushed town of Venus, Oregon. A strange Sheriff with many secrets “protects” a town that turns a blind eye to the serial murders going on.
Although Strangers is packed with horror elements, it has subtle cues of wit and boldness from the main character. Maya, resistant to her captors, does everything in her power to not only get away, but get revenge. As the film progresses, we see moments of despair, but she still persists. Even while dragged through a nightmare, Maya maintains a hardened composure, showing little fear.
The film, while a third segment of the movie trilogy, did not require any prior knowledge to the initial movies. Honestly, not even an understanding of the classics. The movie itself revealed details to the characters and was easy to understand the plotline overall. Strangers – Chapter 3 was engaging yet underwhelming. There was frankly nothing original about the path this film took. While it was action-packed, it also lacked depth to the story other than how deep knives sunk into the victims. The film’s theme was plain and simple: an inescapable murder of strangers.
