Jessica Ho better known by her stage name Jessi, a 33 year old Korean-American Rapper, Singer, and Entertainer under P Nation has released her single called ‘ZOOM’ on April 13. Jessi originally debuted in South Korea in 2005 and was temporarily part of the hip hop group called Uptown. After a brief hiatus, she returned to music as part of the hip-hop trio called Luck J and as a soloist under YMC Entertainment until the group’s disbandment in 2016. Following the end of her contract with YMC Entertainment, she later moved to P Nation in 2019 as the first artist signed under the label, where she continued to advance her solo career. She first gained mainstream popularity under the show called ‘Unpretty Rapstar’ which is a Korean hip-hop competition show.

The song ‘ZOOM’ is a catchy upbeat style dance type of music. In a press conference for the release of her band’s new single, ‘ZOOM’, Jessi was asked to describe what her single was about. She stated that, “…it is about people in today’s society who cannot live without their smartphones.” The style of the song is a hip-hop/trap genre of music. When I first listened to the song I thought it was about her and not about how people in today’s society are constantly on their phones. Why I first thought this was because she got shamed about how her body looked and also how she presented herself. After I looked up why she released this song, I was able to realize what I thought she meant was the complete opposite.

I was able to realize that she meant how people are on their phones looking/posting on social media when she said, “We love to pose and capture moments all over the world” and “I see you lookin’ at my PIC.” I feel that she is telling society that people are all on their phones and that everything including your identity is there to look at.Overall, Jessi’s song was very catchy and kind of uplifting if you interpret the song’s message dierently. I think that everyone should give her music and her song a try and see what you think.
