The Mario brothers are here to save Brooklyn in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and starring Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Jack Black.

This movie is a loving tribute not only to the Mario franchise but also to the Nintendo series of games that fans have grown up with for generations. Mario has arrived at the big screen off on a grand adventure to save Brooklyn, the Mushroom Kingdom, and his brother, Luigi, from the evil king koopa, Bowser.

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” takes the audience on an exploration of the mushroom kingdom like they have never seen it before, with all the power-ups, go-karts, and lovable enemies and toads that audiences have come to love.

The performances of the cast are fantastic, and while some audiences have been concerned over the performances of Chris Pratt as Mario and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, the cast members such as Jack Black and Charlie Day provide a fathomable performance, especially with the musical number “Peaches” that Jack Black sings that is loved by moviegoers.

The soundtrack of the movie pays homage to the music of the franchise, which has remained a staple and iconic part of the franchise itself. The soundtrack has a cinematic orchestra mix with the iconic songs of the Mario series that any fan will notice from a mile away, creating the perfect blend of both film and game. However, the use of commercial music felt sightly off; they are still very 80s and 90s, fitting with the series, and add emphasis to the action in the movie.

While the story is subpar and nothing to write home about, it achieves its goal of being a children’s movie that is both entertaining and comedic for all ages. Although the movie might be a turn-off to people who are not used to or knowledgeable of the games, most of the movie assumes that the audience has knowledge of the world beforehand.

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” is a wonderful adaptation with an average story that, if you are a fan of the series or love Jack Black and Charlie Day, is worth going to see.
