Bakersfield College women’s basketball defeated Riverside College on Nov. 5 with a score of 65-55.

The game was a close one throughout. Riverside kept it within reach as the score was  45-44 heading into the 4th quarter. However, foul trouble and defensive mishaps that the Renegades took advantage of allowed Bakersfield to pull away, as they outscored the opposition 20-11 in the 4th quarter to secure the victory.

Forward Kathleen Rodriguez led the game in points and rebounds with 18 and 21, respectively, in 31 minutes. Guard Brianna Green was a main contributor off the bench, scoring 14 points in 27 minutes. Point guard Angie Gonzalez led her team in assists with four. On the defensive end, Green and guard Jenna Sampley each collected three steals, while Rodriguez blocked two shots.

The win improves the Renegades to 2-0 on the young season, as they look to improve on their 11-17 record from the 2019-2020 season, the last time they were able to play before the COVID-19 pandemic.
