Bakersfield College Women’s Basketball won against Santa Barbara in an exciting game proving both teams as exceptional competitors. The two shared the court on the evening of Nov. 18 in the Renegade Athletic Center. Both teams hashed it out the entire game resulting in a final score of 49-56.

The Renegades made the first two points of the game in a successful layup by freshman Leilene Araniva. The rest of the 1st quarter was filled with many 3-pt jump shots. The score of the 1st quarter being 6-19 with the Renegades in the lead.

During the 2nd quarter, the Santa Barbara Vaqueros stepped up their strategies and got closer to the Renegades score, turning out a score of 26-28. The Renegades still holding the top score.

The halftime was bursting with energy and anticipation from the crowd, as the Renegades held a steady lead thus far.

Through the 3rd quarter, the Renegades retained a good distance between the scores. Over the course of the quarter the Renegades’ score was often 10 points ahead of the Vaqueros. After the end of this quarter, it was clear who was winning this game.

Despite the Santa Barbara Vaqueros desperate forces of action they could simply not keep up with the Bakersfield College Renegades. #4 Leilene Araniva made the last point for the Renegades in a free throw, leading the team to another victory.

When asked how it felt to win this game, #1 Danika Tolentino said, “After a loss on Saturday, getting a dub at home, it feels so good.”

The Renegades are currently 5-1 in their season, and it is only the beginning for them.

This team has each other’s back on and off the court, and their performance is proof of that.

“The chemistry so far is great. We keep building, we’re on game six, and we’re going to keep building from here. We’re really good teammates. Everything we do, we do together,” said #4 Leilene Araniva.
