For almost 40 years, Nan Gomez-Heitzeberg has served Bakersfield College as a dedicated member of the college community. From Faculty Director to Dean, to Vice President of the campus, now, she has the chance to help the Kern Community College District (KCCD) as a whole thanks to the support of the community who elected her as KCCD Board of Trustees member for Area 1.

The current issue on the table for the KCCD is the handling of the money acquired by the Measure J Bond back in Nov. 2016. The Measure J Bond granted the KCCD $502,821,000 for repairs and construction across the KCCD college campuses.

Kyle Carter and Bill Thomas were the previous board members elected in 2014. Carter, who was seeking re-election, won the majority vote, securing his second term. Gomez-Heitzeberg came in second, winning the other seat against opponents Lorenzo Alvarez, Karen DeWalt, and Jerry Melson.
